"...she can belt out melodies with the best of them. Her voice
has the soul of Janis Joplin’s,
the viciousness of Courtney Love‘s, and the strength of Whitney Houston’s...
not overtly angry, it has that oh-so-appealing rebel effect
that merely enhances its originality...
is not only one of the most accomplished unsigned bands, but hands
down one of the most impressive I’ve ever reviewed."
Indie Music.com
"...commands your attention...intense,
emotive, hypnotic vocal performances
which instantly elevates them above so many other
bands in this genre...
a multi-textured, musical canvas she skillfully uses to paint dazzling
stories with pure emotion and clever lyrics as her tools...
With lyrics like that it was very easy to
maintain my concentration on the creative and musical potency of this band."
Muse's Muse
"beautiful, dark-haired vocalist...She's got a nice set of pipes"
"serves up blues based guitar rock in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughn, and
the rhythm section adds a nice funk groove" "jazz-flavored blues rock in the
adult contemporary vein" and Who's To Blame" is a song I wanted to hear over and over again"
StarPolish
"…upbeat collection ranges across the board of acid jazz territory which
includes rock and funk…tight and finely structured with brilliant chords
and chord changes laced with intelligent songwriting and strong out in front
vocals with Nanyana and her Natalie Merchant meets Sade look…"
SLABmusic.com
"Vocals are evocative and powerful with lush
layered harmonies that contribute a lovely texture.
But Nanyana's lead vocals are powerful and wide ranging.
Keyboards perfectly compliment the guitar work and
crisp percussion provides a rhythmic edge to the material.
Who's To Blame is equally evocative; a down-tempo ballad-like track,
the whispy vocals show yet another dimension of their lead
vocalist...concludes with the jazzy but orchestral ballad You Loving Me,
listen for the superb piano solo during the instrumental bridge."
Musical Discoveries
Six White Horses: "this is rock-n-roll...full of the angst and fury that
propelled bands to the top of the heap" Something About You: "contains brilliantly
executed vocals and an incredibly well placed guitar solo"
"NANYANA instantaneously brings to mind the power of Mother's Finest. . .
that brought to bear the finesse of pop, the power of rock-n-blues and the drive of
funk..." "the best thing I have heard from the south in a long time."
Bottom Line..."this is about as radio ready a batch of songs as I've heard
online in quite some time"
GodsOfMusic
" 'Six White Horses' with a gutsy guitar riff underpinning the keening
vocal of their girl lead singer. Or what about the turbulent jazz funk
rock mix of "Change Of Seasons"
Lots of diverse music influences without closely resembling anyone,
this could possibly be described as alt pop with progressive rock
and jazz overtones, but even that doesn't do it.
An American band who richly deserves to be heard
beyond their home state."
